How Aria Got Into
Johns Hopkins University
Where it started
Aria came to AcceptU in tenth grade as a strong student at a competitive public high school in Silicon Valley. From the beginning, she had a clear interest in biology and a long-term interest in a pre-med path. Her family also came in with high expectations and wanted a better understanding of how selective colleges would evaluate her profile. Like many students at that stage, Aria had strong potential and solid early interests, but she needed help turning those pieces into a clearer and more intentional direction.

How we helped
At the start, the focus was on helping Aria build a strong foundation for a pre-med path without making her profile feel overly planned or too narrow too early. Her AcceptU counselor worked closely with both Aria and her family to bring more clarity to the process, helping them better understand how selective colleges evaluate students and which choices would matter most over time.
Early on, that meant helping Aria think more carefully about how her coursework, research, and extracurriculars fit together. With a clearer framework in place, she was able to evaluate opportunities more thoughtfully and focus on the ones that genuinely supported her long-term interest in biology and medicine.
As Aria moved through high school, that direction became more concrete. Her academic plan stayed rigorous but balanced, and she made thoughtful decisions within the limits of her school’s course offerings. Her early research mentorship and medical-focused summer experiences helped her explore healthcare in a more serious way and gave her a better sense of what drew her to the field.
Throughout the process, we worked closely with Aria on academic planning, summer opportunities, essay development, recommendation strategy, and college list direction, while also staying in regular communication with her parents.
Over time, her profile became not only stronger, but more personal. Her interest in the intersection of dance and medicine gave her application a more distinctive dimension and helped her present herself in a way that felt thoughtful and authentic.
By the end, Aria was moving through the process with much more confidence, and her profile felt focused, balanced, and well positioned for highly selective admissions.
