Top ten list of colleges with high admit rates

We’re excited to announce today our list of the top ten colleges that accept more than 70% of applicants. Our college admissions experts selected the diverse range of schools based on recognition in national rankings, geographic, academic and social data. Students in search of stellar programs that admit a relatively high percentage of applicants should consider these schools.

The ten colleges and universities that made the cut are:

• Beloit College (73% acceptance rate) is a residential liberal arts college in Beloit, Wisconsin – about 90 miles from both Chicago and Milwaukee. The college offers more than 50 fields of study and a personal 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio. In 2006, Beloit students broke the world record for the longest running game of ultimate Frisbee – after playing for three continuous days.
• Case Western Reserve University (70% acceptance rate) is located in the cultural hub of University Circle, a neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. Twenty-five percent of enrolled students scored higher than 700 on the SAT critical reading section and higher than 740 on the SAT Math. The college has an endowment of $1.4 billion and students hail from all 50 states – as well as 82 countries.
• Drew University (74% acceptance rate) is a national liberal arts college in Madison, New Jersey, thirty miles outside of New York City. On-campus housing is guaranteed for all four years and submitting SAT scores is optional for applicants. The college’s theater program has received rave reviews and, in lieu of a Greek system, students can opt to join one of six theme houses.
• The Evergreen State College (94% acceptance rate) in Olympia, Washington, has received accolades for its green campus and curriculum. Evergreen offers a top-tier environmental studies program and was named one of the top green colleges by the Sierra Club. The college has an organic farm on campus and boasts prominent alumni, including Matt Groening, creator of the Simpsons.
• Indiana University (73% acceptance rate) is located in the quintessential college town of Bloomington, with its coffee houses, vibrant live music scene and farmers’ markets. Its campus has been called one of the most beautiful, as well as one of the most wired, in the country and the university offers 180 majors, many of which, including business, are ranked in the top ten.
• Ithaca College (79% acceptance rate), in the town of Ithaca, New York, is a liberal arts college with top programs in music, theater and communications. Ithaca is home to the college as well as Cornell University, making it a center for cultural activities. With a focus on sustainability, Ithaca composts dining hall waste and its business school was the first in the world to achieve LEED platinum certification.
• Millsaps College (74% acceptance rate) is a liberal arts college in Jackson, Mississippi, that is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Almost half of the 1,200 undergraduate students are from out-of-state. The curriculum is secular and all students must pass oral and written exams to be granted degrees – even if all required courses have been taken.
• Ohio State University (76% acceptance rate) is the second largest university, with more than 55,000 students enrolled. Located in Columbus, OSU is consistently ranked among the top 20 public universities in the country. It has a highly competitive athletic program, with football and basketball particularly popular among cheering Buckeye fans.
• University of Colorado (84% acceptance rate) in Boulder is a public research university offering 150 academic programs spread across nine colleges. The city of Boulder has received more than its fair share of praise for its cultural and outdoor activities. CU has also strongly pushed sustainability on campus and the university’s Buff Buses run off used fryer grease from dining halls.
• University of Iowa (83% acceptance rate) is the oldest university in the state and home to one of America’s best hospitals. Iowa City is known for its many cultural offerings, including a renowned summer arts program. UI is comprised of eleven colleges and also offers the excitement of Big Ten athletics – the Hawkeyes football team won the Orange Bowl last year.
